I didn't Have My Makeup Bag For A Week And This Is What Happened...

After a weekend of relaxation and fun, I rushed out of my sister's NYC apartment to make it to work (in Jersey City) on time. I was able to gather all of my stuff, but the most important thing (nope, not my wallet) - my MAKEUP BAG was no where to be found.

I confirmed with my sister and her exact words were "Yup, you left your face." I had two options 1. travel all the way back into the city to pick it up or 2. don't wear any of my good makeup. Traveling was definitely not an option because it was Monday and I was lazy AF. So yes, sad and angry... I still chose option 2.

What was I going to do without my Anastasia brow pencil, Nars concealer, Laura Mercier powder, BEAUTY BLENDER, and Smashbox contour palette!??!?!

....Ok, maybe I'm being too dramatic - but still. #firstworldproblems

For the makeup freak that I am, I had to adjust without having my everyday essentials. So, no makeup bag for a week meant I had to improvise and be creative!

Here's what happened

  1. People constantly kept asking me if I was tired or sad. YES, I was sad because I didn't have pounds of concealer to cover my dark circles.

  2. I used brown eyeliner as an eyebrow pencil. It became the perfect substitute, but I had to blend really well because if not I'd look like I had on sharpie brows. (Extreme No)

  3. I used brown eyeshadow for conturing. (Don't recommend, refer to #6)

  4. Vaseline and colored eyeshadow can make a pretty tinted lipgloss.

  5. Baby powder isn't smart for setting your concealer. (Don't believe all the tutorials out there.)

  6. My face broke out because of my experiments. Lol

Here's what I learned

  1.  My natural look is beautiful and I love it... but I still prefer concealer. #IDC
  2. I have a lot of makeup. Being resourceful meant opening my drawers of old makeup and finding what was still useable.
  3. I have a sh*t load of makeup.

  4. I have spent a lot of money on makeup.

  5. Makeup is expensive AF.

  6. My money goes all to makeup.
  7. I have to re-evaluate my $pending habits. Lol
  8. Cetaphil is still the best moisturizer I own. Sorry, La Mer.
  9. La Mer is expensive AF. (Refer back to #7)
  10. Drug store brands are still the bomb.com. Thank you to NYX, Elf, and Maybelline for your amazing help in my time of need.

Honestly, it was really fun using my old products, being innovative and creative with what I had. Probably the most important thing I learned was to give myself more credit!  I love, LOVE makeup, but sometimes I do question my skills. This week without having my makeup taught me that my skills are pretty awesome and to continue exploring the beauty world! There's always something new, fun and creative to explore.

Moral of the story, make sure your makeup bag is the first thing in your luggage before leaving ANYWHERE. #SECURETHEBAG
