Allen York releases his Happy Hour EP with the hopes you won't leave sober. The album is riddled with alcoholic innuendos and as expected bars bars bars. The tape produced entirely by The Trackoholics features collaborations from JoeyG of the Humanauts and Wreck Wregular.
He released the first single Bang'n alongside a visual for it this past October. The tape has several gems tucked away however. The song Martin x Malcolm featuring Wreck regular is a look at the state of young African American men. Both MC's speak on reinforcing positive attitudes and ridding the young culture of stereotypes. The premise of the song is a needed and welcomed outlook considering the recent events in our society.
Listening from beginning to end Allen leads his listeners from his highs to lows. He highlights his content moments with songs like Swang'n. He embraces his naysayers and people who have discounted his music in tracks like The Man/Phorreal and Hustle.
As a fitting end for the Ep the track Toast is ( in my opinion) the epitome of an Allen York track. In his past mix tape No Barcode a running theme is being as content in the struggle and celebrating the small successes. Glad to hear he hasn't abandoned that mantra.
